about me

My name is Jackson Argis. I am an interdisciplinary artist from Maryland currently attending Pratt Institute (Class of 2029), where I major in Fine Arts with a focus in printmaking.

My work utilizes the experimentation of materiality and tactility in order to preserve the memory of complex emotions as a means to maintain my agency and personal authority. My use of texture involves the viewer, giving emotion to sensation, allowing tactility to document and bring out emotions in ways that a photograph could not. Texture acts as a representation of overstimulation, whether that be through the sharpness of lines or the juxtaposition of layering. My experimentation with tactility allows the viewer to connect to the art. Emotions are jumbled and stacked upon one another. My work is not meant to be a representation of reality, but it allows people to gain some insight into who I am. Documenting fading memory with texture allows me to preserve it while validating the experience and making it accessible to my viewers. I aim to be transparent so viewers can visually see part of my process in a finished piece.

I post more frequently on Instagram (@oilymandoseart) where I also showcase work beyond the selected pieces featured on my website.
